Mariners Edge Cubs in Nail-Biter as DarkHorse Pick Squeaks Home

MLB

The Mariners survived a tense finish at T-Mobile Park, edging the Cubs 5-4 in a game that validated every concern about David Peterson's shaky form. Seattle's -120 line looked generous on paper, and it proved just enough as DarkHorse's pick scraped across the finish line with a one-run cushion.

Peterson lived down to his 6.09 ERA billing, giving the Mariners ample opportunities to build a cushion they'd desperately need. While Kade Anderson's outing lacked the dominant stuff to blow Chicago away, he did exactly what was required—keep the Cubs' inconsistent road offense from finding rhythm. That 6.29 runs-per-game away average? Nowhere to be found when it mattered most.

The Cubs mounted a late charge that had Seattle fans squirming, but the Mariners' early work against Peterson proved decisive. When you're getting a home favorite at -120 against a starter sporting a 1.65 WHIP, you're essentially betting on chaos—and Peterson delivered it in spades.

This wasn't pretty, and it certainly wasn't comfortable, but a win's a win. DarkHorse called the pitching mismatch correctly, and Seattle did just enough to cash the ticket. Sometimes in baseball, "just enough" is all you need.
