Mariners Limp Into Toronto, Get Boat-Raced 8-1 by Blue Jays

MLB

The Mariners flew into Toronto and promptly forgot their bats at SeaTac, stumbling to an 8-1 drubbing that was never remotely competitive. Seattle's offense, already anemic on most nights, managed just one measly run while Toronto's lineup feasted like it was an all-you-can-eat buffet at the Rogers Centre.

The Blue Jays jumped ahead early and never looked back, piling on runs with the kind of confidence that comes from facing a team that swings like they're underwater. By the time Seattle scratched across their lone tally, this one was already gift-wrapped with a bow. Toronto's pitching staff cruised, facing minimal resistance from a Mariners order that looked lost and overmatched.

Seattle's pitching couldn't bail them out either, getting shelled for eight runs in what became a thoroughly forgettable afternoon. When your offense can't crack two runs and your pitching staff is serving up batting practice, you're getting run out of the building—and that's exactly what happened here.

The Mariners now head home licking their wounds, wondering when this lineup will finally wake up. Toronto, meanwhile, enjoyed the kind of laugher that keeps clubhouse morale high and makes the standings look a little friendlier. Dominant performance by the Jays, embarrassing showing by Seattle.
