Mariners Pitching Edge Evaporates in 7-1 Blowout Loss to Rangers

MLB

So much for that Bryan Woo advantage. The Mariners limped into Arlington and promptly got steamrolled 7-1, turning our -112 pick into expensive confetti. We backed Seattle's pitching edge and superior team ERA, banking on Woo outdueling Nathan Eovaldi in a tight contest. Instead, the Rangers offense woke up and reminded everyone that batting averages exist for a reason.

Texas jumped on Woo early and never looked back, plating seven runs while the Mariners' anemic offense—already suspect at .229 as a team—managed just a single run. That 1-6 road record we acknowledged in the writeup? Make it 1-7, and the pattern is screaming at us now. Eovaldi, supposedly the inferior arm with his 4.21 ERA, carved through Seattle's lineup while his teammates did the heavy lifting at the plate.

The pitching metrics looked pretty on paper, that 0.71 team ERA gap felt meaningful in the model, but baseball has a funny way of humbling you when bats go silent and road woes persist. The Rangers' .247 team average turned into actual runs; Seattle's didn't. Sometimes the offense gap matters more than the ERA gap, and tonight was exhibit A. Tough loss, on to the next card.
