Mariners Stumble at Home as Reds Steal 5-3 Win

MLB

The Mariners squandered a golden setup at T-Mobile Park, falling 5-3 to Cincinnati and torching our -158 moneyline recommendation in the process. So much for that 1.39 ERA advantage on paper—turns out Brady Singer had other plans, and Emerson Hancock's supposed dominance evaporated when it mattered most.

Seattle's vaunted home fortress, which had been surrendering just 2.11 runs per game, sprung a leak at precisely the wrong time. The Reds' road woes (5.33 runs allowed per game coming in) became irrelevant once they started manufacturing runs against a Mariners staff that looked nothing like the shutdown unit we'd been sold. Cincinnati strung together timely hitting and capitalized on Seattle's inability to deliver with runners in scoring position, building enough cushion to hold off a late rally attempt.

Hancock didn't implode, but he didn't dominate either—the kind of mediocre outing that turns a supposed mismatch into a coin flip. Singer, meanwhile, gave Cincinnati exactly what they needed: enough innings to keep the bullpen fresh and the offense in striking distance. The Mariners managed just three runs despite their home field edge, a pathetic showing that exposed this team's ongoing offensive anemia. Sometimes the numbers lie, and today they lied beautifully. Miss, and it stings.
