Marlins Bully Lodolo and the Reds in Lopsided 7-1 Romp

MLB

The Marlins made Great American Ball Park look like their personal playground Thursday, throttling the Reds 7-1 and cashing our Marlins ML pick in emphatic fashion. This one played out exactly as we forecasted: Eury Pérez's elite stuff versus Nick Lodolo's hittable mediocrity was never a fair fight.

Miami jumped on Lodolo early and often, exploiting every weakness in the southpaw's shaky return from the injured list. The Marlins' offense—which we noted had been more productive on the road despite small samples—validated that trend by hanging seven runs on a Reds pitching staff that had no answers. Meanwhile, Pérez was the ace we expected, carving through Cincinnati's lineup with that sub-3.40 ERA pedigree and nearly 10 strikeouts per nine. The Reds managed just one measly run, looking overmatched from the first pitch.

We called the 1.4 ERA gap between starters "substantial," and it showed. Lodolo's 4.86 ERA wasn't just a number—it was a flashing neon sign screaming "fade me," and Miami obliged. The underdog odds we projected made this a gift, and the Marlins collected seven runs' worth of receipts. Sometimes the mismatch is real, folks. This was one of those times. Bet hit, cash collected, moving on.
