Marlins Sink Mets 5-2 in Miami's Rare Road Victory

MLB

The Marlins did something they don't do often this season—they won a road game, taking down the Mets 5-2 at Citi Field in a contest that was never really as close as the final score suggests. Miami jumped out early and never looked back, putting the Mets in chase mode from the opening frames.

New York's offense, which has been maddeningly inconsistent all year, managed just two runs against a Marlins pitching staff that came in with an ERA north of 4.50. That's the kind of performance that gets fans booing in Queens, and rightfully so. The Mets stranded runners, failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities, and generally looked lifeless at the plate.

Miami's five runs came via timely hitting and capitalizing on Mets mistakes—the kind of fundamental baseball that separates winning teams from pretenders. The Marlins' pitching staff held firm when it mattered, keeping the Mets' bats quiet through the middle innings and cruising to the finish line.

For the Mets, this is another frustrating loss in a season full of them. Getting handled at home by a sub-.500 Marlins squad is the kind of result that makes you question everything. Miami takes the W and heads home feeling good about stealing one in enemy territory.
