Marlins Snap 12-Game Skid, Stun Phillies 8-7 Despite Wheeler Start

MLB

So much for elite pitcher advantages. The Marlins finally remembered how to win a baseball game, snapping their soul-crushing 12-game losing streak with an 8-7 upset over Philadelphia at home. DarkHorse's Phillies -172 pick crashed and burned, and frankly, the warning signs were flashing neon.

Yes, Zack Wheeler brought his sub-2.20 ERA to the mound, and yes, Miami had been averaging under three runs per game during their nightmare stretch. But here's what the numbers couldn't capture: a winless team playing with house money against heavy juice. The Marlins offense woke up exactly when it mattered most, scratching across eight runs against Wheeler and the Philly bullpen—their highest output in weeks. Meanwhile, Philadelphia's bats did their part with seven runs, but it wasn't enough to overcome whatever voodoo was happening in Miami.

The -172 price tag always felt steep for a road favorite, even with Wheeler's dominance. Back-to-back fatigue, heavy juice, and betting against a team due for regression? Recipe for disaster. Miami cashed as a fat underdog, and the Stable took the L. Sometimes the worst team in baseball picks the worst possible night to stop being terrible.
