Marlins Take Care of Business, Bury DarkHorse's Runline Hope

MLB

The Marlins did exactly what we said they couldn't: they won comfortably, 4-2, and sent our Nationals +1.5 pick straight to the glue factory. Miami didn't just edge Washington—they controlled this one wire-to-wire and made the two-run margin stick.

Eury Pérez delivered as advertised, living up to that 3.23 ERA while Jake Irvin's 5.80 ERA proved prophetic in all the wrong ways for Nats backers. The Marlins' offense, which we pegged at a meager 3.9 runs per game over their last ten, suddenly found enough pop to plate four and create separation. Meanwhile, CJ Abrams and that supposedly "competitive" Washington lineup managed just two runs—hardly the scrappy performance we banked on.

Our thesis hinged on Miami's inability to generate multi-run cushions and the Nationals hanging tough in tight contests. Instead, the Marlins built a lead and protected it, never letting Washington sniff a late comeback. The bullpen stress we cited? Non-factor. The historical 60% cover rate for away dogs? Didn't show up when we needed it.

Bottom line: we got the pitching matchup right and still lost. Miami proved they could lay the number when it mattered, and the Nationals proved they're 0-7 in this season series for a reason.
