Mets Demolish Pirates 11-1 as DarkHorse Pick Crumbles in Pittsburgh

MLB

The Mets torched Pittsburgh 11-1 on Tuesday, turning our Pirates -137 pick into smoking wreckage at PNC Park. So much for that "meaningful starting pitcher advantage."

Sean Manaea, the guy we faded for his 4.33 ERA and bloated WHIP, carved through Pittsburgh's vaunted .270+ hitters like they'd never seen a changeup. Meanwhile, Jared Jones and that supposed 0.31 ERA edge? The Mets treated him like batting practice, staking New York to an early lead they never relinquished. The final margin wasn't even close—this was a systematic dismantling.

Our thesis banked on Pittsburgh's home bats exploiting a depleted Mets lineup missing Juan Soto and Mark Vientos. Instead, New York's patchwork roster hung 11 runs on the scoreboard, proving that lineup cards don't always tell the full story. Reynolds, Horwitz, and company managed exactly one run—hardly the offensive edge we projected.

Credit where it's due: the Mets came into hostile territory and imposed their will from first pitch to last. Sometimes the "fair value" at -137 is just a mirage, and the team with the better story on paper gets boat-raced anyway. Pittsburgh never showed up, and we took the loss right alongside them. Chalk it up, move forward.
