Mets Edge Braves 3-2 as Pitching Advantage Evaporates in Queens

MLB

So much for that meaningful starting pitcher advantage. The Mets squeaked past the Braves 3-2 at Citi Field, sending our Braves -110 pick straight to the glue factory. Grant Holmes and his supposed sub-4.00 ERA? Didn't matter. Sean Manaea and his bloated 4.52? Also didn't matter. Baseball's funny that way.

The final score tells you everything about how this one unfolded—a tight, low-scoring grind where Atlanta's vaunted pitching staff and superior offensive metrics (.249 team BA, better OPS across the board) somehow produced exactly two runs. Two. The Braves managed to scratch across a pair, but the Mets answered with three, likely capitalizing on timely hitting that doesn't show up in season-long spreadsheets but absolutely shows up on the scoreboard when it counts.

Our reasoning leaned hard on that 0.73 ERA gap between starters and Atlanta's overall staff superiority (3.74 vs 4.18). Clean logic. The market at 50.4% implied probability felt soft. Except the Mets played spoiler at home, and now we're left holding a losing ticket. Sometimes the team with worse numbers just wins the damn game. That's October for you—or late September trying to act like it. Braves backers, better luck tomorrow.
