Minnesota's Anemic Attack Strikes Again as Dallas Sneaks Out 2-1 Win

MLS

FC Dallas escaped Allianz Field with a 2-1 victory over Minnesota United, and if you watched this one, you know our under 3.0 push was living on a knife's edge the entire match. Three goals total—exactly what we projected—but this one felt closer to a shootout than the defensive slog we anticipated.

Minnesota's finishing woes continue to define their season. Despite all that underlying xG data suggesting they're "unlucky," the Loons managed just one goal at home yet again, extending their pathetic 1.0 goals-per-game home average. At some point, bad luck becomes bad finishing, and Minnesota has crossed that threshold months ago.

Dallas, playing without key attackers, still found a way to bag two goals—exactly the kind of opportunistic performance that separates playoff teams from pretenders. They didn't dominate, didn't need to. Minnesota handed them chances, and unlike the home side, Dallas actually converted.

The push stings a bit—one fewer goal and we're celebrating—but the handicap nailed the script. Minnesota can't score at home, Dallas was compromised up front, and we got exactly the kind of tight, low-event match the metrics demanded. Sometimes the numbers know better than the scoreboard suggests.
