Nashville Grinds Out a Point, But DarkHorse Eats the Goose Egg
Well, that was ugly. Nashville SC and Philadelphia Union sleepwalked through ninety minutes of scoreless soccer Saturday night, and our desk is left holding a losing ticket on the home side. We leaned hard into Nashville's dominant underlying metrics—2.13 goals per game, that fortress-like 6-0 home stretch, a defense conceding half a goal per match—and figured short-handed Philly would crack. They didn't.
Credit where it's due: the Union, missing Bueno and Iloski to hamstring woes, parked the bus and dared Nashville to break them down. Nashville couldn't. For all their xG overperformance and league-best record, they lacked the cutting edge when it mattered. Philly's keeper stood tall, the woodwork helped once or twice, and suddenly a team we pegged for regression looked organized enough to steal a road point.
The data wasn't wrong—Nashville *should* have won this—but soccer doesn't care about your spreadsheet when chances don't convert. A 0-0 draw sends Nashville to 21-7-4 and keeps them atop the East, but it also reminds us that even the best underlying numbers mean squat if you can't finish. We missed. Nashville missed harder.
