Nationals Push Mets to the Brink, Cover +1.5 in One-Run Nail-Biter

MLB

The Nationals didn't win at Citi Field on Wednesday night, but they sure as hell didn't roll over either. A 4-3 Mets victory means Washington covered the +1.5 spread with room to spare — exactly the kind of gritty, one-run game DarkHorse's model projected when it tagged the Nats as the sharp play.

Christian Scott did his part for the Mets, living up to that 3.45 ERA and keeping Washington's bats in check through the middle innings. But Jake Irvin, despite hauling a bloated 5.79 ERA into Queens, didn't implode. He gave the Nationals a puncher's chance, and they took it down to the wire. The final margin? One lousy run — precisely the scenario our desk flagged when noting the Mets' home run differential sits under a run per game at Citi Field.

New York got the W, sure, but they couldn't pull away. The Nationals covered +1.5 for the second straight night, and anyone riding our pick walked away whole. When the favorite can't consistently blow the door off at home, the underdog runline becomes gold. This one played out by the book — our book.
