Nets Take Down Hornets 114-104, Pick Misses
Brooklyn 114, Charlotte 104. Our Hornets moneyline pick missed, and it's worth being straight about why. The case rested on Charlotte's situational edge: a road defense allowing 98.33 points per game against Brooklyn's home number of 118.67, a 110-103 win over these same Nets two weeks ago, and a Brooklyn club that had lost six of seven while missing projected starter Egor Demin. The line also drifted 30 cents toward Charlotte, from -140 to -170, which we read as sharp money agreeing with us.
None of that held up on the scoreboard. Brooklyn got to 114 and never looked like the team that had been bleeding out at home. The Hornets came up ten short, and the defensive gap we were counting on didn't show up where it mattered. A ten-point final margin is not a close-game fluke, so there's no hiding behind bad luck here.
What went wrong is the uncomfortable part. Recent-form splits and a line move are useful signals, but they're not guarantees, and we leaned on them harder than a single prior meeting and a short-term road sample deserved. Brooklyn's record was ugly enough to tempt us, and that's exactly the kind of narrative that can cost you. Charlotte couldn't turn its road defense into a stop, and the Nets' home floor did what the numbers suggested it might.
We'll take the loss, log it, and move on to the next slate. Stable members, tell us where you think the model overvalued the trend. Those notes matter more than any single result.
