Orioles Grind Out 5-3 Win in Oakland, DarkHorse Pick Cashes

MLB

The Orioles took care of business in Oakland, scratching out a 5-3 victory that delivered for DarkHorse backers who rode Baltimore at -142. This one wasn't pretty, but it didn't need to be—not when you're getting nearly three runs of starting pitcher advantage baked into your number.

Shane Baz didn't blow anyone away, but he did exactly what the model projected: outpitch Jack Perkins and keep the Athletics' porous defense from finding any rhythm. Oakland's 5.46 team ERA and .270 opponent BA told the story before first pitch, and Baltimore's offense—mediocre as it's been at .237—did just enough damage against Perkins' bloated 6.68 ERA to build a cushion. The Orioles pushed across five runs while limiting the A's to three, which is the textbook definition of covering a -142 line.

Was it dominant? No. Did it need to be? Absolutely not. DarkHorse identified legitimate value in the pitching mismatch, and Baltimore's 6-3 road record held up under pressure. The Athletics showed some fight late, but when you're giving up contact like they do, you're living on borrowed time. Orioles improve their recent form, the pick hits clean, and we move on to the next card. That's how you grind out wins in May.
