Orioles Squeeze Past Rockies 2-1 in Coors Field Stunner

MLB

The Baltimore Orioles did something almost unheard of at Coors Field on Wednesday: they won a pitcher's duel. Final score 2-1, and yes, you read that right -- this actually happened in Denver's launching pad.

The O's scratched across just enough offense to escape the thin air with a victory, holding Colorado's bats mostly silent in what has to rank among the lowest-scoring affairs we've seen at altitude this season. Two runs at Coors Field? That's like ordering a salad at a steakhouse -- technically possible, but why would you?

Baltimore's pitching staff deserves serious credit here. Keeping the Rockies to a single run in that ballpark is no small feat, especially when Colorado's lineup can typically muster some pop even in down years. The Orioles made their two runs stand up through disciplined bullpen work and timely outs when they needed them most.

Colorado, meanwhile, continues to frustrate. One run at home is borderline embarrassing, even against a solid Baltimore staff. The Rockies' offense has been feast or famine all year, and Wednesday was definitely a famine night.

DarkHorse didn't touch this one with a pick, which in hindsight might've been the smart play. Who predicts a 2-1 final at Coors? Nobody, that's who.
