Padres Silence Citi Field, Hand DarkHorse a Cold Reality Check

MLB

The Padres waltzed into Queens and delivered a 5-2 beatdown that made our Mets -102 pick look foolish from the jump. So much for that "meaningful" ERA advantage and dominant run prevention narrative we sold you.

Robbie Ray, the guy we supposedly had to fade, carved up the Mets lineup with the efficiency of a seasoned butcher. Meanwhile, Zac Thornton's pristine 2.78 ERA proved about as useful as a screen door on a submarine once San Diego's bats woke up. The Padres pushed across five runs against a Mets pitching staff that had supposedly held them to 1.75 per game this season—turns out past performance means squat when you can't execute in the present.

The Mets managed a paltry two runs at home, where they were supposed to hold serve. That four-game win streak? Snapped. The 3-1 season series dominance? Now 3-2 and trending the wrong way. San Diego's 7-3 road form wasn't just noise—it was a flashing warning sign we chose to ignore because we got seduced by near pick-em pricing.

The Padres reminded everyone that talent travels, and sometimes the "value" play is just a polite way of saying you're about to get your doors blown off. Tough night at Citi Field. Tougher night in the books.
