Padres Survive Sloppy Win in San Francisco, Ray Does Just Enough

MLB

The Padres escaped Oracle Park with a 7-5 victory that was uglier than the final score suggests, but DarkHorse's -155 pick still cashed — and that's all that matters in this business. Robbie Ray wasn't the ace we sold you on (5 IP, 4 ER), but he was just good enough to outlast the disaster that is Anthony Molina, who got shelled for 6 runs before the fifth inning even arrived. That 2.32 ERA gap? It showed up exactly where it needed to.

San Diego's bats bailed out their starter early, jumping on Molina's mediocre stuff and building a cushion that held despite Ray's own shaky command. The Padres' bullpen — the depth advantage we highlighted — locked down the final four frames and allowed just one run, which proved decisive when the Giants mounted a late rally that fell short.

Sure, this wasn't pretty. The road woes (now 2-5) are real, and Ray giving back four runs had us sweating. But the fundamentals of the pick were sound: when your starter has a two-run ERA edge and your pen is demonstrably better, you win these games more often than not. The Padres are now cashing tickets even when they don't deserve to. We'll take it.
