Patriots Escape Miami But Can't Cover the Seven
The Patriots did exactly what we said they would—win—but they made it uglier than a South Beach sunburn, taking down Miami 24-19 without covering our -7 number. New England's supposed "massive production edge" showed up in spurts, not statements. They built a cushion early enough to survive Miami's late flailing, but never delivered the knockout punch required to cash the ticket.
Drake Maye's "clear talent edge" over Malik Willis materialized in a workmanlike performance that got the job done without lighting up the scoreboard. The Patriots defense held Miami under 20 points as advertised—the 16.33 PPG offense looked every bit that pedestrian—but New England's own attack sputtered when it mattered most, failing to extend leads and letting the Dolphins hang around like uninvited house guests.
Miami's 1-4 recent form proved prophetic; they lost again. But their desperation kept this closer than the seven-point spread suggested it should be. The Patriots' 10 days of rest translated to a win, not dominance. We nailed the side, whiffed on the margin. Sometimes you get the result without the reward. That's the business. New England moves on; we lick our wounds and reload.
