Phillies Grind Past Pfaadt, Edge Snakes 2-1 to Cash DarkHorse Ticket

MLB

The Phillies did exactly what we said they'd do—lean on their bats and recent momentum to overcome a starting pitching mismatch—and walked out of the desert with a 2-1 win that cashed our -120 ticket. Aaron Nola wasn't supposed to outpitch Brandon Pfaadt on paper, but baseball doesn't care about your ERA spreadsheets when a team is running this hot.

Philadelphia's offense, led by the trio we highlighted in Harper, Schwarber, and De La Cruz, did just enough to scratch across two runs against Arizona's supposedly elite starter. Pfaadt's 3.51 ERA looked pretty on the scouting report, but the Phillies' .89 OPS mashers found a way to make him mortal. Meanwhile, Nola—yes, the guy sporting a bloated 5.03 ERA—kept Arizona's punchless lineup (.70 OPS) off-balance all night, surrendering just one run.

This is what 13-2 in your last 15 looks like: you win games you're "supposed" to lose on pitching matchups because your offense travels and your confidence is sky-high. The market gave us 52.2% win probability at -120, undervaluing exactly the kind of gritty road victory championship-caliber teams manufacture. DarkHorse called it, the Phillies delivered it, and we're cashing another winner.
