Pirates Edge Tigers 3-4 Behind Skenes, DarkHorse Pick Cashes at -130

MLB

The Pirates squeaked past the Tigers 4-3 at PNC Park, and our desk called it clean — Pirates -130 was the play, and it hit. Paul Skenes delivered exactly what we projected: he carved up Detroit's lineup through six innings, punching out eight while surrendering just two earned runs. That 1.15 ERA edge over Jackson Jobe wasn't theoretical — it was real, and it showed. Jobe lasted only 4.2 innings, coughing up three runs on seven hits as Pittsburgh's lineup exploited his below-average peripherals exactly as anticipated.

The Tigers clawed back late, scratching across a run in the eighth to make it interesting, but Pittsburgh's bullpen held serve when it mattered. Detroit's recent skid (now 1-5 in their last six) continued, and their road success earlier in the season feels like a distant memory. The Pirates weren't dominant, but they didn't need to be — they had the better starter, the home crowd, and enough offensive punch to capitalize on Jobe's vulnerabilities.

This one played out by the book. Skenes gave Pittsburgh the edge, the home team converted, and we banked another winner. Sometimes the math just works. Pirates 4, Tigers 3 — chalk it up and move on.
