Pirates Sink Cardinals 6-2 in St. Louis Beatdown

MLB

The Pirates rolled into Busch Stadium and promptly reminded everyone that the Cardinals' pitching staff has more holes than a batting cage net, cruising to a 6-2 victory that was never really in doubt.

Pittsburgh jumped on St. Louis early and often, building a cushion that turned the Cardinals' lineup into a parade of harmless fly balls and weak grounders. The Buccos' offense clicked on all cylinders while their pitching staff kept the Cardinals' bats in check, limiting the home squad to just two runs in what felt like a mercy killing by the fifth inning.

St. Louis looked lifeless at the plate, managing only token resistance against a Pirates squad that came to play. Whatever adjustments the Cardinals thought they'd made after recent struggles clearly didn't take—this was a thorough dismantling from first pitch to last out.

The final score flatters the Cardinals, honestly. This game was decided early, and Pittsburgh spent the final innings in cruise control, padding stats and getting work for the back of the bullpen. For a Pirates team that's been inconsistent this season, this was a professional road performance. For the Cardinals? Back to the drawing board, because getting boat-raced at home by Pittsburgh is nobody's idea of playoff baseball.
