Pirates Take Down White Sox 4-2 in South Side Slugfest

MLB

The Pirates rolled into Chicago and left with a 4-2 victory over the White Sox, proving once again that even baseball's basement dwellers can surprise you on any given night. Pittsburgh manufactured just enough offense to outlast a White Sox squad that's made losing an art form this season.

The Bucs jumped ahead early and never trailed, building their cushion before the South Siders could mount any serious resistance. Chicago managed just two runs despite playing at home, continuing their offensive struggles that have defined a forgettable campaign. Pittsburgh's pitching staff did the heavy lifting, keeping White Sox bats quiet when it mattered most and stranding runners in scoring position during late-game rally attempts.

This wasn't exactly October baseball, but the Pirates will gladly pocket the road win as they continue scrapping for respectability in the NL Central. The White Sox, meanwhile, add another L to what's become a historically bad season. When you're losing to Pittsburgh at home, the calendar can't flip to next year fast enough.

DarkHorse didn't publish a pick here, which was probably wise—betting on games between also-rans is like playing roulette with your bankroll. Sometimes the smart money is no money at all.
