Game Recap
Pistons Torch Wolves 128-106, Preseason Total Explodes Past 227.5
Well, that didn't go as planned. DarkHorse's under 227.5 got torched like Minnesota's defense, missing by a cool six and a half points as Detroit rolled into Target Center and dropped 128 on the Timberwolves in a 22-point preseason beatdown.
The logic was sound—shortened minutes, camp bodies, evaluation mode over execution. Except somebody forgot to tell the Pistons they were supposed to sleepwalk through October. Detroit came out firing, treating this like a statement game rather than a glorified scrimmage. Whether Cade Cunningham played extended run or the second unit went nuclear, the scoreboard didn't care about our day-to-day injury concerns.
Minnesota's 106 wasn't exactly anemic either, meaning both sides decided preseason intensity was negotiable but putting the ball in the basket wasn't. The 234 combined points made a mockery of the reduced-minute, deep-rotation theory we leaned on.
Credit where it's due: Detroit looked sharp, Minnesota looked lost, and the over bettors cashed with room to spare. Sometimes the preseason script gets shredded in the first quarter, and this was one of those nights. Pistons roll, the under burns, and we're reminded that October basketball doesn't always follow the rulebook. On to the next one.
