Predators Squeak Past Stars 2-1, DarkHorse Cashes the Plus-Money
Nashville gutted out a 2-1 home win over Dallas on Tuesday, and our Predators +1.5 sailed home without drama—because sometimes the boring win is the beautiful win. Casey DeSmith didn't need to be spectacular, just steady, and that's exactly what he delivered against a Stars attack missing Matt Duchene and running on fumes in the depth chart. Dallas managed just one goal, proving our thesis that laying -1.5 on the road with identical goaltending matchups is a sucker's errand. The Predators were on a back-to-back, sure, but they were also at home, and that's where legs matter less than desperation. DeSmith and Justus Annunen mirrored each other stat-for-stat coming in, and surprise—neither got lit up. The difference was Nashville found two goals and Dallas found one. Road favorites cover the puck line south of 50 percent for a reason: variance, fatigue, and the simple fact that one-goal games are coin flips with a home-ice tilt. We didn't need the Predators to win outright—though we'll gladly take it—we just needed them to keep it close. They did. We cashed. Sometimes handicapping is about knowing what not to bet, and laying wood with this Dallas squad away from home was exactly that.
