Rangers Bats Make deGrom Look Mortal, Bury A's and Our +1.5

MLB

Well, that pitching gap we dismissed as "only 0.48 runs"? Turns out it mattered—a lot. The Rangers dismantled Oakland 8-1 at home, turning our Athletics +1.5 pick into expensive confetti.

Jacob deGrom wasn't vintage Cy Young, but he didn't need to be. He cruised through six innings while Texas exploded for eight runs, rendering that run line dead by the fifth inning. Gage Jump, meanwhile, got shelled exactly as his 4.69 ERA suggested he might, and Oakland's bats—already anemic—managed just one measly run. So much for covering in two of three season meetings.

The Rangers' "inconsistent" offense? They found plenty of consistency tonight, stacking crooked numbers and making our thesis look foolish. Back-to-back games didn't slow them down. The 51.7% spread probability we cited as proof of no edge? The market knew something we didn't.

Here's the brutal truth: when you're backing a team that can barely score and your starter is giving up nearly five runs per nine, you need everything to break right. Nothing broke right. DeGrom was good enough, Texas was hungry enough, and the Athletics were exactly as bad as their record suggested. We chased value that didn't exist and got run over by seven runs. Tough beat, tougher lesson.
