Rangers Blanked as deGrom Gets Shellacked in Anaheim Disaster

MLB

Well, that was ugly. The Rangers limped into Angel Stadium banking on Jacob deGrom's strikeout stuff to carry them past a weak Angels lineup, and instead watched their ace get absolutely torched in a humiliating 7-0 shutout loss. So much for that -162 confidence.

deGrom's vaunted K/9 rate meant nothing when he couldn't locate, serving up hard contact all night while the Rangers' bats went comatose against Walbert Ureña. Ureña, the supposed inferior arm with fewer strikeouts and worse command, carved through Texas like they'd never seen a baseball before. That .743 OPS lineup? Invisible. The Angels' 4.47 ERA staff? Suddenly unhittable.

This one stings because the logic wasn't crazy—deGrom should dominate a .235-hitting Angels squad that can't score. Instead, Texas got reverse-swept by the narrative. The Angels' 6-3 season series edge wasn't just home cooking; it was a legitimate matchup problem we underestimated. When your ace gets shelled and your offense no-shows, -162 looks like lighting money on fire.

Credit where due: Ureña and the Angels made us look foolish. Sometimes the "worse" pitcher wins because baseball is beautifully, maddeningly unpredictable. Rangers backers, myself included, got humbled. Onto the next.
