Rangers Blanked in Columbus: Garand Edge Evaporates in 1-0 Shutout Loss
Well, that goaltending advantage sure looked good on paper. The Rangers limped into Nationwide Arena and got shut out 1-0 by the Blue Jackets on Tuesday night, sending our Rangers ML pick (+105) straight into the loss column. Dylan Garand came in riding a .915 save percentage and a sparkling 2.05 GAA, while Columbus countered with Jet Greaves and his ugly .874 mark. Naturally, Greaves picked tonight to channel his inner Dominik Hasek.
The lone goal was all Columbus needed, and the Rangers' road woes continued in spectacular fashion. New York entered 1-3 away from Madison Square Garden, and nothing we saw tonight suggested that's changing anytime soon. The Blueshirts managed to generate exactly zero pucks past Greaves, who suddenly remembered how to stop a puck when it mattered most. Meanwhile, Garand was fine—he allowed one goal, which should've been enough given the narrative—but fine doesn't cut it when your offense goes completely silent.
The supposed 4.2 goals-against average for Columbus? Irrelevant when you can't score once. Low-sample goaltending edges mean nothing if you can't solve a struggling netminder. Road Rangers remain a problem, and we got torched betting against variance. Tough pill to swallow at plus-money.
