Rangers Fade in Oakland as A's Roll 5-2, Bradford Bet Craters

MLB

Well, that was ugly. The Rangers limped into the Coliseum and got boat-raced 5-2 by an Athletics squad we confidently faded, and now we're left holding the bag on a Rangers ML ticket that never had a pulse. Our entire thesis hinged on Cody Bradford's elite 2.38 ERA overpowering Oakland's anemic offense, but baseball had other plans. Whether Bradford got shelled early or the bullpen imploded, Texas managed just two runs against Jacob Lopez and company—Lopez, the guy sporting a bloated 5.38 ERA who was supposed to be batting-practice fodder. Instead, Oakland's bats woke up just enough to plate five, exploiting whatever cracks appeared in the Rangers' pitching script. Texas couldn't capitalize on Oakland's ghastly 1-8 home mark or their 8.22 runs-allowed-per-game crater at the Coliseum. Sometimes the numbers lie, sometimes your ace has an off night, and sometimes a bad team just decides to show up. The A's did all three. Rangers backers got steamrolled, and we're eating crow on this one. Tough loss, but that's baseball—no excuses, just a bad beat and a lesson in variance.
