Rangers Fall Short in Toronto Shootout, 5-4
The Maple Leafs edged the Rangers 5-4 in a back-and-forth affair at Scotiabank Arena that had more lead changes than a playoff overtime thriller. Toronto's offense showed up when it mattered most, turning what looked like another Broadway road show into a home victory for the blue and white.
New York's defense had more holes than Swiss cheese tonight, surrendering five goals in a game that featured zero quit from either side. The Rangers clawed back multiple times but couldn't find that final equalizer when the clock became their enemy. Credit to Toronto for answering every Rangers push with one of their own – that's the kind of resilience playoff teams show in December.
The Blueshirts' offensive firepower kept them in this one all night, potting four goals that would've been enough against most opponents on most nights. Just not this one. When you're trading haymakers with a skilled offensive team like Toronto on their home ice, you better be ready to land the last punch. The Rangers weren't.
DarkHorse stayed off this one – probably smart given how coin-flippy high-scoring divisional matchups can get. Sometimes the best bet is no bet, and this game proved exactly why.
