Rangers Get Steamrolled in Jersey as Garand's Magic Run Ends Ugly
Well, that was a bloodbath. The Devils absolutely demolished the Rangers 7-1 at Prudential Center, turning our Rangers ML pick into smoking rubble before the second intermission. So much for Dylan Garand's fairytale start – the kid got lit up for seven goals, and whatever defensive structure New York brought into this game evaporated faster than a playoff drought in Manhattan.
We backed the Rangers at plus-money based on Garand's microscopic 1.15 GAA through three starts and Jake Allen's shaky .885 save percentage. Turns out Allen didn't need to be sharp when his team decided to play target practice on the other end. The Devils' injury concerns? Completely irrelevant when you're burying pucks like it's a power-play drill. New Jersey's 3.67 goals-against at home became a moot point as they flipped the script and hung seven on a Rangers squad that came in allowing just 1.75 per game.
Credit where it's due: the Devils came out hungry and never let up. As for us? Sometimes the numbers lie, and tonight they lied spectacularly. Garand's Cinderella story hit a brick wall, and we're eating crow with a side of humble pie. Onto the next one.
