Rangers Ice Mammoth's Hot Start, Send Cossa & Co. Home Empty-Handed
The Rangers flipped the script at Madison Square Garden, handing the previously undefeated Mammoth a 4-2 reality check and torching our +1.5 puck line in the process. So much for back-to-back fatigue being a non-factor.
New York jumped early and never looked back, building enough cushion to cover the spread comfortably despite a late Mammoth push. The Rangers' two-goal margin made our Mammoth +1.5 call look foolish, plain and simple. We leaned hard on Sebastian Cossa's sparkling .944 save percentage and that 5.0 goals-per-game attack, but the kid goalie finally met his match under the Garden lights. Turns out elite early-season numbers mean squat when you run into a motivated Rangers squad playing with structure.
The Korpisalo question mark we flagged? Non-issue. Whether he started or someone else manned the crease, New York's netminder did enough to frustrate a Mammoth offense that had been lighting lamps at will through two games. Credit where due: the Rangers defended smart, clogged lanes, and capitalized when it mattered.
Mammoth's perfect start hits the skids at 2-1, and we're left holding a losing ticket. The market loved this puck line at 65.8 percent, and sometimes the market gets pantsed. Onto the next one.
