Rays Survive Coors Field Chaos, Cash DarkHorse Pick at 9-7

MLB

The Rays escaped Coors Field with a 9-7 victory over the Rockies, and DarkHorse backers cashed their -138 ticket despite the kind of sweaty ninth inning that ages you in dog years. This wasn't the pitching clinic we projected—Gabriel Hughes got shelled for six runs, making Freddy Peralta look like Greg Maddux by comparison—but Tampa Bay's bats bailed out the blueprint in the thin Colorado air.

The original handicap leaned heavily on Tampa's systemic pitching edge and elite run suppression. Well, scratch that. Hughes lasted all of four innings, the bullpen leaked like a rusty bucket, and the Rays needed nine runs just to survive. What actually delivered? Offense. The same Tampa lineup that's been quietly competent all season exploded for nine, exploiting Colorado's 5.51 bullpen ERA exactly as anticipated—just not in the way we drew it up.

The Rockies clawed within two late, turning this into a proper sweatbox, but the Rays' recent form (now 11-5 in their last 16) held. Sometimes you win ugly. Sometimes your starting pitcher thesis gets torched and your offense has to drag you across the finish line at altitude. A win's a win, the pick hit, and we're moving on before anyone asks too many questions about that bullpen.
