Rays Walk Off Brewers' Win Streak in Stunning 4-3 Comeback
Well, that's baseball for you. The Brewers' eight-game win streak and postseason dominance over Tampa Bay came crashing down in the cruelest fashion possible, as the Rays walked it off 4-3 to hand Milwaukee their first loss in sixteen tries. So much for momentum being a predictable thing.
Griffin Jax wasn't lights-out, but he didn't need to be—Tampa Bay's offense finally woke up after getting boat-raced 10-1 the day before. The Brewers' vaunted run prevention, that sparkling 2.0 ERA on the road, couldn't seal the deal when it mattered most. Milwaukee led for most of this one, scratching across three runs against Jax's 3.53 ERA stuff, but couldn't add the insurance that would've made this comfortable.
The Rays clawed back late, and when the moment arrived in the bottom of the ninth, they didn't hesitate. Walk-off winner, 4-3 final, and suddenly that -125 Brewers ML looks like fool's gold. The market moved toward Milwaukee for a reason—they'd been unstoppable—but baseball doesn't care about your last fifteen games when the other guys decide it's their turn.
DarkHorse's Brewers pick? Missed. Decisively. Sometimes the best team on paper still loses, especially when you can't close.
