Red Sox Bats Go Silent as Blue Jays Squeeze Out 2-1 Win, DarkHorse Pick Falls Flat

MLB

Well, that 3.97 ERA advantage sure looked pretty on paper. The Red Sox limped to a 2-1 loss in Toronto, managing just one measly run despite facing the supposedly overmatched Jameson Taillon. So much for that "superior offense" we touted.

DarkHorse backed Boston ML at -179, banking on Sonny Gray's dominance and the Red Sox lineup featuring Willson Contreras and Ceddanne Rafaela to overwhelm a depleted Blue Jays squad. Instead, we got a masterclass in why baseball doesn't play out in spreadsheets. The vaunted Boston bats sputtered all night, stranding runners and making Taillon look like vintage Roy Halladay.

Toronto scratched across two runs—just enough—while their pitching staff did the heavy lifting. Gray wasn't bad, but he wasn't the difference-maker we needed when your offense forgets how to hit with runners in scoring position. That 6-1 road split? Meaningless when you can't manufacture more than a single run.

The -179 price was already pushing our limit, and this is exactly why steep favorites make us nervous. When the offense no-shows, even a three-run ERA gap becomes irrelevant. Boston had every statistical edge, and they still found a way to lose. Tough beat, but that's baseball—sometimes the better team on paper just doesn't show up.
