Red Sox Offense Does Exactly What We Said It Would in Miami

MLB

The Red Sox took care of business in Miami, 4-2, and our ML pick at -138 cashed exactly as advertised. This one played out like a textbook validation of superior lineup construction meeting adequate pitching.

Sandy Alcantara and Ranger Suarez delivered the expected pitching duel through the middle innings, keeping it tight and low-scoring just as their matching peripherals suggested. But here's the thing about evenly-matched starters: the team with actual bats wins. Boston's offense, featuring the firepower we highlighted in Willson Contreras and Wilyer Abreu, manufactured just enough against Alcantara to build a cushion the Marlins' punchless lineup couldn't overcome.

Miami managed only two runs against Suarez and the Boston bullpen, which tracks perfectly with that sub-league-average .720 OPS we noted. When your offense is that pedestrian, you need your starter to throw a gem, not just a quality start. Alcantara was fine, but fine doesn't beat a lineup posting 7.0 runs per game over their last five.

The Red Sox didn't need to blow anyone out here. They just needed to be better, and they were. Four runs, solid pitching, cash the ticket. Sometimes handicapping is this simple: back the team that can actually score.
