Red Sox Offense Goes Silent as Pirates Flip the Script in 8-3 Rout

MLB

Well, that didn't age well. After watching Boston hang eight on Pittsburgh just two days ago, we confidently backed the Red Sox and their supposed offensive edge. Instead, the Pirates flipped the narrative entirely, throttling Boston 8-3 at PNC Park and making our ML pick look foolish.

Paul Skenes, the guy we faded for his 3.88 ERA? He clearly took that personally. The rookie carved through a Red Sox lineup that had averaged over six runs per game recently, making them look utterly lost. Meanwhile, Patrick Sandoval—our supposed ace in the hole with his 3.30 ERA—got shelled. That 1.70 WHIP we handwaved as a minor concern? Turns out elevated baserunners matter when Pittsburgh's bats wake up. The Pirates plated eight runs against a guy we sold as having a "meaningful edge," and it wasn't even close.

Boston's vaunted hot streak evaporated in one ugly afternoon. The offense that dropped eight two days prior managed just three runs, and suddenly those poor Pittsburgh home splits (2-2, 5.5 R/G allowed) look like ancient history. Sometimes recent form means nothing, and sometimes a young stud pitcher reminds you why he was the number one pick. We got this one dead wrong—no sugarcoating it.
