Red Wings Finally Wake Up, Bury Senators 5-3 in Little Caesars
So much for exploiting Detroit's winless start. The Red Wings snapped their 0-2 home skid in emphatic fashion, lighting up Ottawa 5-3 and making our Senators -1.5 (+200) look foolish in the process. Detroit's offense, averaging a pathetic 1.0 goals per game coming in, suddenly discovered the back of the net with authority while Ottawa's vaunted road form—3.5 GPG away—got bottled up when it mattered most.
The Senators came in riding high at 2-0, but this was the classic trap game. Detroit clearly had enough of losing at Little Caesars Arena and came out hungry, building a lead they never relinquished. Ottawa made it interesting late with three goals, but the damage was done. The Red Wings' goaltending, which we flagged as potentially vulnerable, held firm enough to secure the two points.
Our handicap banked on Detroit's offensive struggles continuing and Ottawa's early-season momentum carrying over. Instead, we got the exact opposite—a Detroit team that remembered how to score and an Ottawa squad that couldn't overcome a multi-goal deficit despite their previous firepower. The +200 price looked juicy on paper, but variance is a cruel mistress in early-season hockey. Sometimes the winless team just decides to stop being winless. Tonight was that night.
