Reds Edge A's in Nail-Biter, DarkHorse Cashes Despite Late Scare

MLB

The Reds squeaked past the Athletics 6-5 in a game that tested the nerves of everyone who backed Cincinnati at -154, but a win's a win and DarkHorse's pick cashed. The handicap centered on Andrew Abbott's pitching edge and Oakland's offensive futility, and while Abbott did his part keeping the A's bats quiet enough, this one came down to who could manufacture just one more run.

Cincinnati's offense did the heavy lifting early, building enough cushion to withstand Oakland's late push. The Athletics showed more fight than their 7-game skid suggested they had left in the tank, scratching across five runs against a Reds staff that had to earn every out. Mason Barnett predictably struggled as expected, validating the ERA gap that made this line playable despite the juice.

The Reds' 8-3 last-10 record now looks even shinier, and they've taken all three matchups against Oakland this season. The A's losing streak mercifully ends at seven games in spirit, but extends to eight in reality—still a rudderless ship on the road at 2-7.

Laying -154 always feels expensive until you remember you're betting against a team averaging 2.6 runs per game over their last five. Cincinnati's home cooking proved just enough, and the pick delivered exactly as advertised: ugly, tight, but ultimately correct.
