Revolution Settle for Home Draw Despite Dominant Possession Against Depleted NYCFC

MLS

New England and New York City split the points in a 1-1 draw at Gillette Stadium, and our Revolution ML pick at +130 goes down as a frustrating miss. The Revs controlled possession for long stretches and generated the cleaner chances, but couldn't capitalize on NYCFC's skeleton crew—twelve starters out, remember—and paid for it with dropped points at home.

New England struck first through a well-worked set piece in the 28th minute, validating the pre-match thesis about their home form and defensive structure. But NYCFC, playing with house money and nothing to lose, equalized just before halftime on a counter-attack that exposed the exact xGA vulnerability we flagged. The Revolution's overperformance on finishing (+10.8 goals above expected coming in) finally caught up to them when it mattered most, as they squandered three gilt-edged second-half opportunities that their underlying numbers suggested they'd bury.

The draw keeps New England's home record respectable at 6-2-2, but this was two points surrendered against a team missing half its roster. NYCFC's road woes (now 0.87 goals per away game) didn't materialize into a full collapse, and their goalkeeper stood on his head when needed. Sometimes the injury-depleted underdog finds just enough—tonight was one of those nights.
