Rockies Silence Nationals 3-1, Freeland Embarrasses DarkHorse's Pitcher Math

MLB

So much for that "decisive pitching gap." Kyle Freeland -- the guy we basically called batting practice with a 6.37 ERA -- just walked into Nationals Park and made our entire analytical framework look like it was written in crayon. The Rockies took this one 3-1, turning our Nationals -150 pick into expensive confetti.

Andrew Alvarez and his supposedly elite 2.77 ERA advantage? Didn't matter. Freeland pitched well enough to win, the Colorado bats did just enough damage, and suddenly that 3-1 season series dominance we leaned on feels like ancient history. The Nationals managed one measly run at home after dropping 13 on the board yesterday -- baseball's favorite middle finger to pattern recognition.

Here's the brutal truth: we got seduced by starter ERA splits and recent blowouts while ignoring that Coors Field hangover statistics work both ways. Freeland's road numbers have been significantly better than his overall line suggests, but that nuance didn't fit our narrative about "massive edges." The Rockies' lineup -- which we acknowledged had better OPS indicators before dismissing them -- actually showed up when it counted.

Fair value at 62-64 percent? Try 0-100 percent in the loss column. Sometimes the worse pitcher wins. That's baseball, and that's why we're 0-1 today.
