Royals Edge Tigers 3-2, DarkHorse Eats Another Home Favorite

MLB

The Royals walked into Comerica Park and swiped a 3-2 win, sending our Tigers ML pick straight to the glue factory. So much for Casey Mize's ERA advantage and Detroit's home fortress narrative—Kansas City's bats found just enough holes to make Michael Wacha's workmanlike outing stand up.

Detroit's offense, already anemic at .235 on the season, managed only two runs despite Mize doing his part on the mound. That's the rub with pitching-driven favorites: you still need someone to push runs across, and the Tigers proved once again they couldn't manufacture offense when it mattered. The Royals, meanwhile, shook off their brutal 1-7 road mark and scratched out three against Mize, exploiting the thin margin for error that comes with backing a sub-.500 squad at home.

We leaned hard on Detroit's recent dominance in the season series and that sparkling 2.38 home runs-against average, but baseball doesn't care about your spreadsheet when the bats go silent. Wacha wasn't brilliant, but he didn't have to be—Kansas City's defense held, and three runs proved golden. Sometimes the road dog bites back, and today the Royals had just enough teeth. Tough break, but that's the game.
