Royals Get Shelled at Coors as DarkHorse Whiffs on Pitching Edge

MLB

Well, that was ugly. The Royals got boat-raced 12-6 in Denver, turning our ML pick into expensive confetti. So much for that "superior bullpen depth" and "solid pitching" narrative—Kansas City's arms got torched for twelve runs at Coors, proving once again that altitude doesn't care about your recent defensive metrics.

The logic was sound on paper: Feltner's been awful, the Rockies couldn't hit water falling out of a boat lately, and Kansas City had been locking teams down at under three runs per game. Except nobody told Colorado they were supposed to stay cold. They exploded for twelve, turning what we thought was a pitching mismatch into a home run derby they dominated. Meanwhile, the Royals' offense managed six—respectable in most parks, utterly insufficient when your pitching staff decides to audition for batting practice duty.

Luinder Avila and the Kansas City bullpen combined to gift-wrap this one for the Rockies, who suddenly remembered how to hit just in time to make us look foolish. The 2.8 runs allowed per game over ten? Ancient history. Coors Field is the great equalizer, and today it equalized our bankroll right into the red. Sometimes the thin air makes everyone's ERA look like a typo, and today was one of those days. Swing and a miss.
