Royals Get Smoked at Coors as Freeland Flips the Script on DarkHorse

MLB

Well, that ERA advantage sure looked good on paper. The Royals limped out of Coors Field with a humiliating 8-1 loss, turning our Seth Lugo confidence play into a cautionary tale about trusting numbers over altitude reality. Lugo, supposedly our 3-run ERA edge, got shelled for six runs as the Rockies offense decided inconsistency was last week's problem. Meanwhile, Kyle Freeland—the guy we faded for his ghastly 7.34 ERA—suddenly remembered how to pitch at elevation, stifling Kansas City's bats and making our "superior starting pitcher" narrative look foolish.

The market overweighted Coors Field? Turns out the market was right. Colorado jumped on Lugo early and never looked back, piling on runs while Freeland worked efficiently through six-plus innings. The Royals managed one measly run, looking completely overmatched in the thin air. Our -101 "value" evaporated faster than a fastball loses break at 5,280 feet.

Sometimes the pitcher with the prettier ERA still gets lit up, and sometimes the home team with momentum just keeps rolling. The Royals are now 0-3 against Colorado this season, and we're now 0-1 betting on them to change that trend. Lesson learned: when a team owns you, they own you—spreadsheets be damned.
