Royals' Win Streak Snapped as Blue Jays Blank Kansas City 3-0

MLB

So much for momentum. The Royals' nine-game heater hit a brick wall in Toronto as the Blue Jays cruised to a 3-0 shutout, making our +115 backing of Kansas City look foolish in hindsight. Randy Dobnak's sparkling 1.58 ERA suggested he'd carve up Toronto's lineup, but baseball doesn't care about your spreadsheets — Spencer Miles and the Blue Jays' pitching staff held the Royals scoreless while their offense did just enough.

We leaned hard on Dobnak's ERA advantage and Kansas City's red-hot form, banking on a squad averaging 5.5 runs per game to keep rolling. Instead, the Royals managed exactly zero, getting completely stifled. Miles wasn't dominant — his 3.02 ERA is solid but unspectacular — yet he and Toronto's bullpen made Kansas City look lifeless at the plate. The Blue Jays' three runs were more than enough.

This is the cruel reality of riding hot streaks: they end, usually when you least expect it. Dobnak's numbers screamed value, the win streak screamed momentum, and the +115 price screamed opportunity. What we got was a flat performance and a shutout loss. Credit Toronto for executing at home, but this one stings. The math said Royals; the scoreboard said otherwise.
