Seahawks Grind Out Ugly 13-10 Win as Defense Bails Out Sputtering Offense

NFL

The Seahawks covered the spread at home, but nobody's hanging a banner for this one. Seattle limped to a 13-10 victory over New England in a season opener that looked more like a preseason slog than a showcase of those 28-point-per-game offenses we were promised. DarkHorse's Seahawks -175 moneyline cashed, but if you enjoyed watching this game, you might need a new hobby.

Seattle's defense did the heavy lifting, holding the Patriots to just 10 points and validating the pre-game thesis that their 1.6-point defensive edge per game would matter. New England's depleted depth—missing Henderson and Brown—showed up exactly where it hurts, with the offense sputtering all afternoon and the defense gassed late. The Patriots couldn't capitalize on Seattle's own offensive struggles, managing just a single touchdown against a home defense that smelled blood.

Seattle's attack was equally anemic, barely scraping together 13 points despite the home-field advantage and favorable matchup. The rotational absences of Charbonnet and Okada didn't sink the ship, but they didn't help either. This was survival football—three points, a home crowd, and a defense that refused to break. The pick hit because Seattle's defense traveled better than New England's patchwork roster, not because anyone lit up the scoreboard.
