Seattle Steals a Point as Cincy Dominance Goes Unrewarded in 1-1 Stalemate

MLS

FC Cincinnati did everything but win on Saturday night, settling for a 1-1 draw against a depleted Seattle side that had no business escaping with a point. Our pick on Cincinnati looked golden for long stretches—Cincy controlled possession, generated the better chances, and played like the home favorite they were supposed to be. But soccer is a cruel mistress, and one moment of Seattle competence was enough to split the points.

Cincinnati's attacking prowess showed up as advertised, breaking through with their lone goal and peppering a makeshift Sounders backline that was missing both starting center backs. Seattle, winless in eight coming in and averaging barely half a goal per game, somehow conjured an equalizer against the run of play. Their offensive absences—Morris, Arriola, de la Vega all out—should have been fatal, but desperation and a bit of luck kept them alive.

The miss stings because the underlying logic was bulletproof: Seattle's injury crisis, their abysmal road scoring, Cincinnati's home fortress. But this is MLS, where chaos reigns and the better team doesn't always cash tickets. Cincinnati dominated without dominating the scoreboard, and that's the only stat that matters. We move.
