Senators Fall Flat in Philly as Flyers Snap Winless Streak with 3-1 Victory
Well, that was ugly. The Senators limped into Philadelphia and got outworked in a 3-1 loss, handing the winless Flyers their first victory and making our Senators ML pick look foolish in the process. So much for that "decisive goaltending gap" – turns out Linus Ullmark's elite .949 save percentage doesn't mean much when your offense forgets to show up and you're getting outplayed at both ends.
The Flyers, somehow 0-9 coming in, finally found their legs and controlled this game from the opening drop. Philadelphia's 3.67 goals-against average suddenly looked like a distant memory as they clamped down defensively and capitalized on their chances. Ottawa managed just one goal – hardly the offensive output you'd expect from a 6-2 team with strong two-way metrics. The Senators' 2.88 goals-per-game average was nowhere to be found, and that earlier 2-1 head-to-head win over Philly proved meaningless.
Credit where it's due: the Flyers were desperate, and desperation is a hell of a motivator. Ottawa looked flat, passive, and completely unable to impose the systemic edge we banked on. Sometimes the best team on paper gets punched in the mouth by a hungry underdog. That's hockey – and that's a missed pick.
