Sharks Get Blanked as Stars Finally Remember How to Score
Well, that escalated quickly. The Stars absolutely steamrolled San Jose 5-0, turning our momentum narrative into confetti. So much for Dallas's scoring drought – they found the cure, and unfortunately for us, it came at the Sharks' expense.
Our Sharks +140 pick was built on a simple premise: Dallas couldn't buy a goal through two games while San Jose was lighting lamps at 4.5 per contest. Turns out back-to-backs hit different when you're traveling, and the Stars' home ice finally woke up their offense. That "hot Sharks attack" we loved? Frozen solid. Zero goals against a Dallas squad that looked like a completely different team than the one that stumbled out of the gate.
Casey DeSmith did his part for Dallas, but he barely had to break a sweat. The real story was Yaroslav Askarov – that .885 save percentage we flagged as concerning? Yeah, it got worse. Five pucks behind him, and suddenly the Sharks' early-season offensive fireworks look like a mirage.
Credit where due: the Stars flipped the script entirely. Sometimes a team just needed to get home and find their game. We caught them at exactly the wrong time. Happens. On to the next one.
