St. Louis Shocks the League Leaders, Leaves DarkHorse Eating Crow in Vancouver
Well, that went sideways in a hurry. St. Louis CITY SC rolled into BC Place and absolutely torched the league-leading Whitecaps 3-1, making our -205 Vancouver pick look like we'd bet on a rec league squad. The Whitecaps came in boasting a fortress at home and that sparkling 0.86 goals-against average – St. Louis said thanks for the bulletin board material and proceeded to triple that number in ninety minutes.
Our logic was sound on paper: Vancouver's dominant form, that stingy defense, home-field advantage. What we didn't account for was St. Louis deciding this was the night to stop underperforming their xG and actually finish their chances. The visitors were clinical when it mattered, exploiting gaps that simply haven't existed for Vancouver all season. Meanwhile, the Whitecaps managed just one consolation goal despite their 2.29 goals-per-game firepower.
This is the MLS chaos we pretend to love until it costs us a pick. St. Louis proved the table doesn't mean squat when you show up ready to play spoiler on the road. Vancouver's aura of invincibility? Shattered. Our confidence in that -205 line? Equally destroyed. Credit where it's due – CITY SC came to win, and they left no doubt. Sometimes the underdog just bites harder.
